REVIEW - Wolf//Goat - The//Day//Tripper//Demo      Wolf//Goat brings an interesting mix to Richmond music.  The best way to describe the sounds is Satanic orchestral punk.  The first track, “Flesh Tones,” combines the “ois” with organic, Americana-signaling banjo.  The piece then turns proggy as the drumming crashes, effects razzle, and piano bangs.  The vocalist, Ben...

Stonebrook Moonshine - Highway Stonebrook Moonshine is a gritty Southern rock four-piece, with two of the four having known each other since high school (bassist Drew Kisamore and keyboardist Joel Ingram).  A chance jam session with Steven Boone (lead guitar, vox) added the third member, and the first response of a craigslist ad brought about drummer Terrence Kelleher.  Everyone is a part of the...

Richmond Ranks as a Top Music Trend Setter →
My friend, Becca, sent me this link.  Richmond ranks pretty high in the chart for indie music and is still holding strong on the all music category.  I have, especially recently, been finding tons and tons of fresh hip hop, so I think it’s an oversight that we didn’t place on that table, too.  I’m proud of us, RVA!

This Hungry Earth - Curving All Around You This Hungry Earth has just released a couple songs as a followup to its 1st EP.  THE began as a solo side project by Ian Robinson (Energy 2000 and pictured below) when he left for Amsterdam and Scotland to study abroad.  Now the band has expanded to four, and the sound has filled out some more.

Tigerlamp - Good Friends in My Head Get ready for four tracks of atmospheric and hypnotic music done by Reid LaPierre (Houdan the Mystic, Night Idea) as Tigerlamp.  They were written, recorded and mastered (by Joshua Osborne of The Subterranea Collective, who also created the cover art) all in one day.  There is certainly something to be said about a project that takes such little time to...

galaxygirlradio: You may remember back in my posting for Show 28 of Janetpalooza that I said this, “Hopefully Silver will post some of his video too, and then I’ll tumble it.  That’s his camera that I kept catching in the left of my frame when I panned to Josie.” Well my friends, he posted that video today.  And he didn’t just get 1 song like I did.  He recorded the entire performance (and...

Clint Maul - New Shit 2012 Clint Maul has been around the scene for a while now and his acoustic sets are quite popular.  He has now released a set of new songs.  He even steps out from behind his acoustic guitar to create some electronic moments (e.g., “Love Letter”). “Instrumental Weed Jam #2” is the last song of the album and it messes with the fuzz a little bit.  The...

MH - “Where Are You Going? (The Easy Song)” Maxfield Haag, who sometimes releases music as Meeting House and MH, has recorded a new song with the lovely Meghann Parkinson (pictured below with MH’s live band by Alexandra Dent).  I cannot help but envision the talent show scene of Revenge of the Nerds I guess because it’s so 80s.  It’s pretty infectious, too. MH...
