The High Street Lowlifes - “You’ve Been Had”

This rendition of The High Street Lowlifes was certainly an era in itself.  Recorded at Sound of Music Studios in RVA by Jay Lindsey, this track is a single from the only EP the Lowlifes put out.  The original lineup included Chris Nelson, Jacques Vest, Charles Howell, and Nathiel Benton.  There are videos from the Poe Museum’s Unhappy Hour, which was one of their first gigs in 2007.

Since then, the lineup has changed a few times, with the latest involving only Howell from the OG.  While what they are doing is similar, it still feels a little weird calling them that. Behold, the first lineup of The Lowlifes:

Anyway, The High Street Lowlifes will still blow you away and give you the best string band experience you can have.  You can get your chance tomorrow, Friday 2/10 @ Gallery 5 for Sweethearts for the Arts: Speakeasy.  This good time will include the Lowlifes (current lineup pictured below) as well as Alison Self on her magical ukulele.

In addition, be prepared to witness some of the sexiest Burlesque RVA has to offer:

The Richmond Institute of Burlesque, featuring:
Deepa de Jour
Dolli Holiday
The Garter Snaps
Etta Pancetta
Chris Chaos
Foxy Faux Pas
Indy Go-Go
Lily Liqueur
Ella Amunet
Magical Mad Scientist Doc Volz

The idea here is that this very high profile event is a secretive Prohibition-era shindig complete with password: “Bees Knees”

This event is to benefit Art on Wheels, an organization devoted to bringing art to everyone who may not have been exposed to it.  They go into our community and allow individuals to express themselves in ways they never thought possible.
