Jonathan Vassar and The Speckled Bird - “The Wind Through the Trees”

Jonathan Vassar and the Speckled Bird set sail for new horizons in their new album, The Sky and Country, released this summer.  The water-centric themes of the songs echo each other as Vassar’s gentle baritone plays the troubadour.  Sea shanties abound with lush instrumentation.  Even if the backing instruments are limited to one or two, those sounds fill the airspace pretty evenly.  Everything is very quiet, but almost too quiet.  The crescendos do not go very far either.  But for some tender moments in a Henry David Thoreau manner, Vassar’s your man.
