Family Cat - Dealing With Depression
Family Cat has released a seamless album whereby a lot of the songs directly flow into the next, like “Mighty Morphine Power Rangers” > “Google: Cat Vagina.” I won’t be doing the latter, because I’m at work. Once I get home, though, I’m getting ready to see some cats vaginas. Fur real though, this track might be the standout as it shifts time signatures and includes multiple interjecting vocals.
The pop punk album was recorded by Chris Compton (Hold Tight!, Midair, Little Master, etc.) who is the guitarist in Brief Lives. Dealing With Depression covers some of the lower aspects of depression and what comes with it. “This Christmas Isn’t Going to Get Drunk and Ruin Itself” is an example of some of the wonderful song titles that feed into the depressive outlook.
Check out Family Cat @ Strange Matter on Sunday, 8/12 with Planes Mistaken for Stars, Smoke or Fire, and Regents.

Family Cat - He looks like a fucking vampire from buffy
RVA’s Family Cat has released three songs from their upcoming full-length Dealing with Depression. Chris Compton (bassist/Hex Machine, guitarist/Brief Lives) did the recording. (EDIT: We messed up his previous clients, but they include:Hold Tight!, Midair, and Little Master) Check out the split track “Mighty Morphine/Google” for crunchy, ringing guitars and danceable drums. “Mighty Morphine“‘s outro is fairly complex and utilizes harmonics and prominent bass, a pretty nifty mixture.
Aside from having the most adorable band name ever, Family Cat is made up of band members from bands like The Haverchucks and Tiger Tail. Check them out this summer: 7/13 @ The Camel with A Wilhelm Scream, The Holy Mess, and This Is Your Life. THEN 8/12 @ Strange Matter with: Planes Mistaken for Stars, Smoke or Fire, and Regents.

New Video from Family Cat
Family Cat just made a video for “Mirror,” and it shows three of the band members “walking through” each other like they were ghosts. It’s a pretty cool effect and the song isn’t bad, either.
The band is headed to the studio at the beginning of June to work with Chris Compton. They will work on their new album called Fickle Foot Fetish.
Upcoming show dates include:
6/9 @ Strange Matter (early show) with Laura Stevenson & The Cans, Nude Beach, Just Friends, and Passenger.
7/13 @ The Camel with A Wilhelm Scream, The Holy Mess, and This Is Your Life.

RVA’s Family Cat released their demo, Don’t Let This Be You, last week, and it’s currently playing in Sound of RVA’s HQ. Dudes just played a show at the Church of Abe last night (w/ Haverchucks, Close Talker, and Amateur Thieves), so keep an eye out for footage, photos, etc.
