Early Sunday night show on 5/19!

Lobo Marino - Backrub Improv (ft. Bowl of Dust & Co.)

Lobo Marino spent a great deal of 2012 on the road, and then played a house show this week (1/22) in RVA’s Northside.  The above is a track from a show on the road, and the two below tracks are “community jams” from the aforementioned house show.  Enjoy the tribal, seductive, drone nature of these recordings.

Lobo Marino will hit the road again (see dates here) but will return to RVA to play a show on 2/26 (venue TBA).

Lobo Marino - “Golden Flea”

Lobo Marino has released an erotically spiritual video for their killer tune, “Golden Flea.”  The song is from the spankin’ new release Kite Festival.  The polyrhythms and chanting make the music feel otherworldly, and the video emphasizes being one with nature.

Come out to Lobo Marino’s Album Release Show/Party @ Gallery 5 on 7/19 with Antlers and Dave Watkins.  This will also be the tour kickoff show for Lobo Marino and Dave Watkins.  Doors @ 7, Music @ 8, FREE!

Keep your eyes peeled for my column this week at RVA Mag (On the Horizon): there might be some more videos from these two.

Lobo Marino - Kite Festival

RVA’s Lobo Marino is an experimental folk duo which travels the world while still calling Richmond home.  Lobo Marino sometimes utilizes the services of musicians such as Nathaniel Roseberry, and in this new recording, features the sounds of Dave Watkins, Joon Kim, Patrick Bates, and the live audience at the Gallery 5 show where this recording took place.  Recorded back in March, the album has a very textured, worldly and spiritual flair.

Check out Lobo Marino @ Gallery 5 on Thursday, 7/19 for the Album Release Show with other acts Antlers and Dave Watkins.  Then, the band will head out on a west coast tour - meaning this is the last Lobo Marino show until December.  Don’t miss out!  BTW, this is FREE!

Mermaids. I mean whales. - “Fear and Thievery”

Chris Gregory’s rich baritone vocals set him apart from other singer-songwriter-folk artists of the day in Mermaids. I mean whales (pictured just below).  Strange name, but intriguing guy.  His back story is that he’s been a drummer for ten years, hiding behind the kit.  Now he’s stepping forward and taking the spotlight.  Mermaids. I mean whales will be playing @ The Camel on Thursday, 12/15.

Joining them will be:

The Moonbees (RVA “neo-roots”)

Lobo Marino (RVA world folk, pictured below)

This should be a pretty chill show!  $5 and starts promptly at 9:00.
