Dreadlock Robot - “Steady Lion”
Radio Rubber Room presents Wednesdays at the Republic is a pretty sweet event. This past week Dreadlock Robot stopped by for a set, and Justin Lewis with Attic Boy Studios recorded this live track. This will be a weekly recording, so keep your eyes on Radio Rubber Room. This reggae/dub track lasts a little over ten minutes, and the sound is so immediate that you feel like you’re in the front row. There’s virtually no crowd noise, also.
Come out this coming Wednesday (2/6) for Redlight Rodeo (video just below) and The Dirty Picture Show.

Damaged Andy - Old Bones
“Richmond is my delightful sickness.”
Damaged Andy (aka Dan @ Radio Rubber Room) spits some dark rhymes in Old Bones, a collection of unreleased songs over his ten year career. Damaged Andy toasts over some minor chord deep beats a la Eminem. Feminists might get a little touchy listening to “Bitch Magnet,” but he samples Biggie, so how can that be wrong? We’re loving the fuck-it attitude in “Product Parody (01).” “If you’re buying what I’m selling I’m selling what you buyin…I’m the product.” Killer beats and unbelievable flow, Damaged Andy’s what’s up!

So !lla on Radio Rubber Room
What’s the deal with Radio Rubber Room anyway? Three hilarious dudes (Derrick, Dan, and Shawn) grill hip-hop guru So !lla (pictured below) on this week’s episode. If you like laughing and fresh beats, this podcast is for you.
Plus hear tunes from Dem 360 Boyz, Damaged Andy, Photosynthesizers, Joey Ripps, Just Plain Ant and Sleaze

Ghost Owls on Radio Rubber Room
Click to listen to this weekend’s installment of Radio Rubber Room. The guys are back with Ghost Owls, a band that’s really coming into its own.
I’m pretty sure this band used to be called Cannery Row, and I saw them a few times a couple years ago opening for American Aquarium. Back then they had the elements of Americana, jam, and folk that really made their sound a unique listen. I grabbed a free copy of their EP at the time, which was much less refined than the live show. The singer’s pre-pubescent tones and blips carved out something young and filled with potential. Now the singer, Doug Fuller, has grown into his voice a little more. The melodies are much more pronounced instead of assumed or rushed. Now the band has been gigging a bunch more, including many dates in September and October . Check out their upcoming shows:
November 18th: Bogarts w/ The Kindling Kind (RVA band led by angelic Miriam Martin)
December 2: Cafe Diem
