ANNOUNCING - Sounds of RVA + Bogart’s in the Fan =

The Sounds of RVA Showcase!

On the third Saturday of each month, we will invite three bands to kill it at Bogart’s and rock out with you!  We are super pumped about this, and we are working together with Britt (booking, bartending, waitressing, generally just being awesome) @ Bogart’s.

Just as valued venues like Cous Cous and Cafe Diem are about to and have recently closed their doors, respectively, Bogart’s is stepping up to become a great revamped spot to watch your favorite bands.

We are working on some incredible line-ups, and the first show will be SATURDAY, MAY 18! (Bands TBA)

In addition to a memory-making show experience, Bogart’s has some other bonuses!

- Patio featuring cornhole! (It will be warm, yes!)
- New and exciting late night appetizer menu (mmm…)
- Ample parking including lots across Cary Street from and behind Bogart’s
- Table AND bar service
- Britt !

Hit us up if you think you’d be a good match: soundsofrva@gmail.com

For any other Bogart’s booking, hit up: bogartsbooking@gmail.com!

SOUNDS OF RVA 2ND Anniversary Show!

We are pleased to announce that we will celebrate our 2nd ANNIVERSARY! on 11/15 @ Strange Matter with JOSH SMALL, The Hotdamns (farewell show!), Lightfields, Bearstorm, and Sacred Teachers!  Music between sets will be provided by Jamie Lay!

We could not be more excited to share this news!

You must go to this show on Thursday, November 15th!

There will be door prizes, free schwag, great music, and more surprises!

Gull (pictured just above by Toni Marie) is a one-man band virtuoso who recently moved to Philly but keeps his ties here to Richmond.  Nathan Rappole is the man behind the mask, and he plays(ed) for Snack Truck, Ultra Dolphins, etc.   He will mesmerize with his psychedelic and polyrythmic sounds.

EDIT: Gull will not be performing.

The Hotdamns (pictured just above by Michelle Dosson) will play their final show ever to celebrate Sounds of RVA’s 2 years.  The band last played last summer at the now-deceased Sprout, and the band members are gearing up for their hottest damned set ever!  You will love country rock after seeing these guys, if you didn’t already.

Lightfields (pictured just above by Sounds of RVA) will party down with ass-kicking rock licks and swoon-worthy saxophone.  The original drummer (Mark McDonald) has returned to give the band a new lift and even more mature sound.

Bearstorm (pictured just above by Sounds of RVA) will make Appalachian progressive death metal become your new favorite genre of metal.  With a concept album out and another one on the way, Bearstorm is always changing up time signatures yet rocking you straight to the core.

Sacred Teachers (pictured just above) just went through a lineup change, and things are absolutely on point.  You may remember the band used to have the prefix of “Boney Loner and.”  Mr. Loner is still the frontman, and Lindsay Phillips (The Diamond Center) is on bass; Jamie Lay (Baby Help Me Forget!) is on drums, and Nick Driver (Mr. Loner’s brother) is on guitar.  They are sure to rock you, so don’t miss their set!

So come on out Thursday, November 15th to Strange Matter (doors @ 9pm, music @ 10), bring your friends, and party down with Sounds of RVA and friends!  It’s only $5!

EDIT: here is the facebook event!

Sounds of RVA Presents: On the Horizon #13 @ RVA Mag

This week we have a Q&A with Bermuda Triangles, new stuff from The New Belgians, bassist Curtis Broadie, a new female old-time duo called String’d Beings, and a new jazz fusion project with some guys from PBR.

Dear Readers:

I have heard from many of you that Chrome does not load Sounds of RVA very well or at all.  We are working to fix this problem soon, thanks for your patience.  In the meantime, Firefox does a great job displaying and loading.
