The Snowy Owls - “Kerfuffle” AND
Hoax Hunters - “Orbit”

The fuzz bruz of RVA, The Snowy Owls and Hoax Hunters, have teamed up in celebrating Record Store Day this Saturday. The two bands have a split 7” containing two songs from each band and are releasing it on 4/20, Record Store Day through Cherub Records. “Kerfuffle” is static, distortion-led post-rock with melancholy vocals. “Orbit” is a faster, clashier rocker the is a great counterpart to The Snowy Owls’ effects.
The tracks were recorded by Allen Bergendahl at Scott’s Addition Sound. Hoax Hunter drummer Tim Falen (Hot Dolphin, Diamond Center) provided some additional mixing.
There will be a limited release on Saturday, 4/20 @ Steady Sounds including a performance by both bands. As if you needed another reason to visit on Record Store Day!

Barren Girls - “Deal With the Devil”
Barren Girls are a new group with half the members being from Raleigh and the other half from RVA. This is one out of four tracks on the debut EP called Hell Hymns on Merge Records out April 2 (7” vinyl and digital).
Lead singer Carla Wolff wanted to start an all-female punk band, and she enlisted Ash Van Eijk (drums) and Jenny Williams (keys, who had never played an instrument before this) and started the band Lazy Janes. They soon added badass bassist Fran Araya and the band Barren Girls was formed.
Influenced by bands like X, T.S.O.L., 45 Grave, and Dead Moon, Barren Girls play supreme garage rock with a punk edge. Distorted guitars, crackling vocals, loose drums, and moody keys take these chicks to the top.
Come see Barren Girls for FREE @ Steady Sounds on Saturday (3/30), 5 pm. Browse records while you listen!

The story behind the video: Other Voices, Other Rooms was a project involving 120 kids. The Great Unknown and 120 kids worked together to create 5 songs. The band sifted through poetry and other thoughts written down by the many kids. The event helped to inspire elementary and middle school students and involve kids in music in a new way.
