Sundials/Tatlins Tower Split - “Assailant”/”Socialism in America” respectively
RVA loves Sundials, and so it’s great news that the band has a new split 7” out with Tatlin’s Tower. It is being released through Kiss of Death Records. You can preview one song from each band now. Sundials’ “Assailant” is a midtempo song with melodic verses. Lead singer Harris Mendell’s borderline falsetto is very prominent in the mix and cuts through you with each syllable. “What could have drawn assailants here? I don’t want to think about it…”
Here is “Dan Worships the Devil,” the other Sundials track on the split (as furnished by Tatlin’s Tower). It’s a bit looser and trashier - just like the devil himself:

Sundials - “New York Crunch”
Sundials has made one track available from the forthcoming album When I Couldn’t Breathe, due out September 25. Recorded by Mike Bardzik, “New York Crunch” is a piece of pop punk perfection. Vocal harmonies are used tastefully and the drum clatter kicks the rock up a notch.
Sundials will be playing 8/27 @ The Camel with Nothington (Cali punks), The Haverchucks (hometown hoes) and Amateur Thieves (RVA bromantic punks). Early show, 7 pm, $8. All ages!

Sundials - “Completely Broken”
Sundials just released a single from the upcoming album When I Couldn’t Breathe, due out September 25th by Asian Man Records (Alkaline Trio, Lemuria, Max Levine Ens.). “Completely Broken” sounds a little Weezer-y with its catchy, sludgy punk guitar riffs and multi-part surf-y harmonies. Then the song breaks down into counterpoint, which word I’m not 100% sure I’m using correctly. One set of voices sings, “Completely broken…” and the other set of voices sings other lines at a faster pace.
